My name is Angela Marler (she/her) and I have been married to my husband, Brian, for 25 years. I was a stay at home mom for 17 years. I've been home with my children from day one. Now, we are empty nesters as my son, Michael (Junior @ UO) and daughter, Mackenzie (DPT @ APU after graduating from UO) are away and pursuing their dreams. As my daughter was thinking about college, I decided that I needed to find my passion so that I could keep myself busy and start the next chapter in my life as my babies were about to start theirs. I went to school at Animal Behavior College to become a certified dog trainer. Then, I received an additional certification through AbsoluteDogs which gives me the skills to train dogs through games. So much fun! I can't wait to share these new skills with you and your dog.
I am so glad that I made these steps because I love what I do. I am a force free/concept dog trainer who focuses on training dogs with kibble/treats, positive interaction and games, lots and lots of games. I am all about training each dog with positive things to keep them motivated. After all, we work for a paycheck, why wouldn't our dogs want to do the same?
If a dog is not enjoying their training, something needs to change. Training should be fun and about trust and confidence building with your dog. If you have a shy/fearful/nervous dog, training is so very important to their mental well being. Just learning how to sit and practicing that with his owner daily will help build confidence. Hearing praise from the one he loves the most will help him to walk proud. You will see it, I will show you.
All training is about baby steps and following your dog's lead. Always set your dog up to succeed! My job, as your trainer, is not to judge what you've done with your pup in your past training, but to help you move forward. I want to help you get your pup on the right track and that is through force free and concept training.
A training goal of mine is to help you understand how to communicate with your dog. Dogs communicate through body language and it is universal. Wouldn't it be amazing to be able to understand what your dog is trying to communicate to you? Did you know that their facial expressions are extremely telling? Or that they may try to calm you (& their environment) down if you are making them nervous because you are excited about the big game by licking their nose or yawning? Let me show you and help you better understand your pup.
